SLP - ECHO
Overview The ECHO Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides a full range of comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative speech/language services for children with educationally significant hearing loss (including profound deafness) ages birth to 21. Provides consultative services and coordinates on an individual basis activities with outside agencies. Travel may be required for direct and/or consultative early intervention service in the patient's natural environment. Travel may also be required to outside schools to provide consultative services. Qualifications EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Speech Language Pathology (SLP) License Illinois upon hire and Certificate of Clinical Competence in SLP (CCC-SLP) within 1 year and Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA) within 30 days. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist or completion of master's level training program in speech language pathology. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with others in the Carle organization and in other agencies. Projects a positive image and high degree of professionalism. Is self-motivated and strives for personal and professional growth. Responsibilities Selects, administers and interprets diagnostic assessments across all communication areas with consideration of child's overall developmental abilities and speech/ language levels. Works with parents and team members to obtain necessary information to develop speech, language, and listening targets that optimize child's use of amplification devices, and supports families through the referral process for additional services or testing. Analyzes expressive and receptive semantic and syntactic skills at a variety of levels through formal and informal measures. Writes treatment plans, updates progress weekly , completes diagnostic reports and maintains appropriate chart note documentation in the electronic medical record. Provides repeated successful practice and utilizes audition as the primary pathway to expanding language and communication skills during therapy sessions. Has or develops familiarity with basic workings of amplification devices (e.g., hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems, etc.), seeking guidance from audiologist when in doubt or when more comprehensive troubleshooting is required. Acts as second tester for audiograms, perception testing and cochlear implant programming for patients of various ages. Activities include: working to develop consistent visually reinforced or conditioned play responses, transcribing and interpreting verbal responses, and providing input about performance at school, under the guidance of an audiologist. Cooperatively observes individual patients at school sites and counsels staff about auditory, speech and language recommendations specific to the child's school placement. Assists with additional responsibilities in program development and implementation as deemed necessary by ECHO Manager, CAOS Supervisor and/or ECHO SLP Supervisor. Has or develops familiarity with basic workings of amplification devices (e.g., hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems, etc.), seeking guidance from audiologist when in doubt or when more comprehensive troubleshooting is required. Works with parents and team members to obtain necessary information to develop speech, language, and listening targets that optimize child's use of amplification devices, and supports families through the referral process for additional services or testing.
